According to an article from Bloombergthe DOJ closely examines the activities of certain agents of customer service from Coinbase to India. These agents, working for a subcontractor of Cornerbasewould have abused their access to internal systems to steal sensitive data on user accounts.
The platform first revealed this data leakage May 15, specifying that the accused agents had been licensees. Paul Grewal, the legal director of Coinbase, also said that the company collaborated with the DoJ and other law agencies to continue these « Bad actors ».


A large -scale attack on users
Although Cornerbase said that no password, private key or fund has been compromised, data leak has had disastrous consequences. In particular, it has enabled attacks by social engineering targeting high -level users, including a partner of Sequoia Capital.
THE losses linked to these attacks are estimated to $ 400 million. The attackers even tried to make Coinbase sing, demanding $ 20 million so as not to disclose the data leakage. A request was refused.
